David was elected to the position of Trustee in 2022. David began as a City Carrier Assistant in 2016 and became a proud Union member that same year. In 2018, David was elected Shop Steward by the Carriers in West Farm Station. David worked hard and was recommended by President Charlie Heege to become the LBA for region 15 consolidated casing in that same year. David attended multiple trainings offered by Branch 36 which gave him the knowledge and skill needed to push him further in his Union career. In 2022, David became a Formal A Representative and was elected to the Trustee position where he will continue to keep the carriers well informed.

Flavor of the Month

Welcome to another Flavor of the Month article. I want to take the time to discuss two important things that have been happening in our stations. The first consistent topic from management is stationary time. Management is starting to look at RIMS Records to see how much time carriers are actually in the street. I advise letter carriers to please return to the station when you are done with de¬liveries. DO NOT stay out in the street to avoid additional work. Remember, we must stay gainfully employed for eight hours; please protect those assignments. On another note, this also can be a potential hit to our assignments in regards to route adjustments. PROTECT your assignments by any and all means.
Secondly, remember to continue to take your breaks and that includes: lunches, breaks and wash ups. Remember your street breaks: you have a 30-min. lunch with an 8-minute wash up, a 10 min. break at your last stop or relay, an 8-minute break when you are back from the street; and lastly, the comfort stops. When you are taking your breaks, keep in mind if you exceed ten minutes of idletime, the scanner notifies management that you have been in an idle position for far too long.
For combo assignments and carriers with buildings on their assignments remember to carry your scanner (do not leave it in your pushcart or truck) even when you do not have a scannable item. Show your Movements! Remember when you’re NOT moving management uses a system called breadcrumbs, which allows them to see your movement when you are on the street. Therefore, always carry your scanner at all times, whether you are scanning items or not. Protecting our assignments and staying gainfully employed should be a top priority. All we have is each other, brothers and sisters; so let’s work together and safeguard our jobs.
I just wanted to take a moment to acknowledge David Velazquez Sr. for everything he did for the branch and membership. Most importantly, I’d like to acknowledge my own appreciation for the lessons, teachable moments, and patience he continuously showed me. His guidance afforded me the opportunity to be in the position I am today. David, will not be forgotten and will be forever remembered as a dear friend. Until we meet again in the next life, rest in peace, David Velazquez, Sr.!
