MDA Summer Camp

About Camp

After the MDA Summer Camp experience, campers recall it as “the best week of the year.” With 90 camps across the country, kids with neuromuscular diseases get to have an unforgettable experience where year-round skills are developed and they have the opportunity to just be a kid! Each child is paired with a volunteer who helps them with all aspects of camp life, from fun and games to personal care and attention. Each camp provides a wide range of activities especially designed for young people who have limited mobility or use wheelchairs. Accessible activities range from outdoor sports such as swimming, boating, baseball, football and horseback riding, to less physically demanding programs like arts and crafts and talent shows.

To Volunteer

  • Please note that at the Summer Camp in Spring Valley, NY, volunteers must be 18 or older!
  • At MDA Summer Camp, volunteer counselors work one-on-one with campers around the clock, providing the care, close supervision and attention children with neuromuscular diseases need. Counselors push wheelchairs, lift and carry youngsters, and even "bunk down" near their campers so they can help them during the night. But above all, they become a youngster's friend for a week — and sometimes for a lifetime.
  • At MDA camp there's always a need for:
  • Volunteer counselors
  • Medical Staff
  • Water Safety instructors
  • Activity coordinators

To Sponsor a Camper

By becoming an MDA Summer Camp sponsor, you can provide a local youngster with neuromuscular disease many special summer memories. The cost of sending one child to MDA camp is $850. As a sponsor, you will be invited to send a representative to visit the local MDA camp during our special sponsor VIP Day. You'll see firsthand the joy that summer camp creates and meet campers appreciative of your support in making camp possible.
